On January, 05 XIV Christmas Regatta has started. Christmas regatta was established by Oleg Hoperskiy in year 1993, who has collected several finn boats at Sochi and invited finnesters from all areas to meet at Sochi and to have fun by racing in Christmas time. Since then this regatta has became regular and quite popular. Every year in Christmas time finnesters of different ages from all Russia and other countries come to Sochi to meet each others and to take part in the regatta. It is also good chance to extend sailing season for many sportsmen since most part of Russia is covered by snow and ice at this time, while travelling with boat across Russia is costy moneywise and timewise. So year 2007 has became fouteenth for this regatta. 28 sporstmen came to Sochi. Many of them have been involved to making up 6 boats to make them ready for races. Every morning the sportsmen were devided for 5 groups. Competitors and boats were defined by case for each race. A couple days there was a little bit stronger wind. Two yang sportsmen have managed to break the masts. After the races experienced finnesters had to spend much time by repearing the goods and by modifiing some things at the boats for more convenient and better control of the boats.
So by such scheme 7 races for each sportsman were conducted and 8 sportsmen for final races were defined. They were:
Results of the qualification races Also we have to say that for final races the boats have came in better condition after several modifications, which were done during qualification races.
During the final races it was supposed that all participants use different boat for every next race in order to give equal chances for every participant. Unfortunately due to slow wind at the final day only 4 races were conducted. But anyway the final can be considered that it was conducted.
The final results are: 1-st place - Rozhkov Vitaliy (Taganrog city) 2-nd place - Kravchenko Vasiliy (Moscow Finn Association) 3-rd place - Mekhanikov Vadim (Taganrog city) 4-th place - Kravchenko Alexander (Moscow Finn Association)
Our respect and congratulations to winner and prizers!
