Sails Olympic Finn Tuning Guide

Supplied in either Polyester or Kevlar.

The latest development from Victory sails for the 2003 season

Code 633. The panel layout in the head has been changed. There is now 3 panels going vertically from the headboard to the second horizontal seam. This second horizontal seam is level with top batten. This improves the distribution of the panels, and not only allows better control of the luff curve in top 20% but also the consistency of the shape from one sail to another. The big advantage of this improvement it that sails can be built to "custom made" computer design luff curves, within a tolerance of 0.5 mm as it is very important to be able to repeat to 100% the same shape sail.

The 2003 season will also see the introduction of a completely NEW model, which has been tested over the 2002 season. New 731 model is designed in combination with stiffer F/A masts to make a step forward regarding all round performances, but specially to make improvements under the choppy conditions and wind range 5-10 knots. (Ideally for masts with F/A measurements less then 120 mm). The 731 sail has slightly less luff curve, more shape in the seams with appropriate changes in draft position. It is also slightly flatter in the top, and slightly more full in bottom half, therefore it looks more open and twisted.

The standard luff curve is perfect for mast numbers:
F/A: 73.5%, (118-122mm), 75.5%, tip 510-525
Side: 64%, 118-126mm, 88-90%
tip 390-400
A typical masts full measurements being

f/a: 90, 120, 92, tip 520

side: 79, 122, 109, tip 390
